A Joyful Return to Byrnes Auditorium
The York County Choral Society is thrilled to open its 44th season with a very special performance in the beautifully renovated Byrnes Auditorium at Winthrop University. This stunning 3,000-seat venue will once again come alive with the sounds of the season. Featuring 65 auditioned singers from across York County, YCCS is a community-based ensemble dedicated to sharing exceptional choral music that uplifts, inspires, and enriches. The concert will also showcase the Elementary Honors Choir of Rock Hill Schools and Winthrop University music faculty and alumni, joining together for an unforgettable evening of music and community spirit.
Music for Every Listener
The program, With Tidings of Great Joy, offers an eclectic mix of choral literature, with a rich blend of musical styles including cherished traditional carols — something for everyone to enjoy. Highlights include:
- The resplendent Gloria by Randol Bass and exciting Psalm 24 by Lili Boulanger.
- “O Little Town of Bethlehem” by Dan Forrest, a beloved South Carolina composer whose lyrical style brings depth and beauty to this timeless carol.
- “Jesus, Jesus, Rest Your Head”, a tender Appalachian carol arranged by YCCS Co-Director Randy Imler, honoring the region’s folk heritage.
- Sounds and songs accompanied by the magnificent D. B. Johnson memorial organ
A Season of Growth and Harmony
Now in its 44th year, the York County Choral Society continues to grow and flourish, with talented volunteer singers from all walks of life. This season also marks the exciting return of the YCCS Chamber Vocal Ensemble— a smaller, select group of singers performing under the co-direction of Imler and Mixon. The ensemble’s reintroduction brings an exciting new dimension to the concert, offering an intimate, expressive experience that complements the full chorus performances.

Parking for the Concert on December 7
- Please park in a faculty/staff, commuter, or visitors spot. Campus police will be at the main entrance to help direct traffic. There is construction on campus, and the typical traffic pattern at the front entrance is not accessible.
