This spring, the York County Choral Society invites you to experience the depth and beauty of the Passiontide season through an inspiring concert of sacred choral music. As we journey through the themes of sacrifice, reflection, and triumph, this program offers a profound musical meditation on the events of Holy Week, from Christ’s entry into Jerusalem to the sorrow of the crucifixion and the hope of resurrection.

The program includes a diverse selection of works that bring the Passion story to life. Stirring Renaissance motets, powerful spirituals, and grand choral anthems will guide us through the emotions of this sacred season. The dramatic tension of Victoria’s “O Vos Omnes”, the contemplative beauty of Rheinberger’s Passionsgesang, and the soaring harmonies of Duruflé’s “Ubi Caritas” all offer moments of introspection and reverence. The triumphant strains of Gounod’s “Unfold, Ye Portals” and the bold spiritual “Ride On, King Jesus” remind us of Christ’s ultimate victory.

A highlight of the program is the beloved hymn “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna,” which celebrates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. With its joyful melody and text written by Jeannette Threlfall in the 19th century, this hymn captures the excitement and praise of the crowd welcoming Christ as King. The audience is warmly invited to join in singing the third verse, making this a truly communal moment of worship and celebration.

Join us as we reflect on the Passion season through music that speaks to the heart and soul. Whether in moments of sorrowful contemplation or resounding praise, Passiontide will leave a lasting impression, reminding us of the power of faith and the enduring hope of Easter.

Ticket sales end at noon, the day of the performance. Due to limited seating no tickets will be sold at the door.
